Prevention Resource Officer Program
 

Required Training For Officers

Prevention Resource Officers must be certified or receive a training certificate before entering the school in one of the following instructional curriculums:

  1. Increasing Your Causative Power

This is the first program used by the PRO's.This program will give you ideas that you can use to become a very successful person. To accomplish this, it is important to first search for the truth and then make decisions about who you are and who you want to become that are based on the truth. In short, this program, Increasing Your Causative Power, will show you how to increase you causative power your ability to make things happen by:

  • Improving your self-image (your opinion of yourself)
  • Increasing your self-esteem (how you see yourself)
  • Using your self-talk to affirm the new reality

In summary, be prepared to take charge of your life and be very successful. It's up to you and you can do it!

This program originated from the Pacific Institute. The Pacific Institute is a private corporation that teaches people how to think in a way that brings success. The Pacific Institute's education is based on up-to-the-minute research in self-image and cognitive psychology, and its effectiveness has been internationally recognized.

For more than 20 years, The Pacific Institute's programs have been used with impressive results by corporate, educational, social and military leaders around the world. This education has also been used successfully by millions of men, women, and young people like you who want to learn how to be the best they can be.

  1. Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.)

The D.A.R.E. program was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles, California by Police Chief Daryl Gates and has been proven so popular that it is now being implemented in nearly 75 percent of our nation's school districts and in more than 44 countries around the world. D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teach children from kindergarten through twelfth grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. The program focused on elementary school children, but now is expanding to include middle school and high school programs. Objectives of D.A.R.E. include:

  • acquiring knowledge and skills to resist peer pressure to experiment with drugs,

  • enhancing self-esteem and learning to be assertive,

  • exploring positive alternatives to substance abuse and violence,

  • learning anger management and conflict resolution,

  • developing risk assessment and decision-making skills,

  • reducing violence and building communication skills, and

  • resisting gang involvement.

Students make their own decisions, but the D.A.R.E program can lead them to make the right decisions. The program also allows students to interact with a uniformed police officer to gain trust and knowledge of law enforcement officials

The PRO's must choose one of the above approved instructional curriculums as the core curriculum for their program, but can be trained and use the other approved curriculums also.
