Current Research Projects
Adult
Corrections Populations Projections The
Criminal Justice Statistical Analysis Center (CJSAC), in conjunction with the Division of Corrections
and with technical assistance from George Washington
University, forecasts bed space needs for the state's
prison population. In February 2001 a ten-year
forecast was released and presented to the
legislature. In assessing the performance of this
forecast, it was found that between January 2000 and
December 2001 the actual prison population was greater
than the forecasted population by an average of 17
inmates each month, only 0.44% of the actual
population. Both the original forecast report and
the update report are available on this web site.Sexual
Offender Study
In
November 2001 the CJSAC released the West Virginia Sex
Offender Study. This report summarizes the sex
offenses reported to law enforcement, the sex offenders
in criminal justice custody or supervision, sex
offenders admitted to and released from corrections,
registered sex offenders, and sex offender treatment
providers. This comprehensive study was provided
to the Sex Offender Management Committee to assist in
statewide planning for this population. It is also
available on this web site.
Juvenile
Justice Annual Reports
In
collaboration with the West Virginia State Police, the
West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Administrative
Office, Juvenile Probation Offices, and the Division of
Juvenile Services, the CJSAC produces annual reports on
juvenile arrests, probation, detention and
corrections. The WV Juvenile Arrest Report:
1989-1998, the 1999 WV Juvenile Probation Annual Report,
the 1999 WV Juvenile Detention Annual Report, and the
2000 WV Juvenile Corrections Annual Report are available
on this web site.
Juvenile
Corrections Forecast The
CJSAC intends to collaborate with the Division of
Juvenile Services with technical assistance from The
George Washington University to produce the first
juvenile corrections forecast for the state.
Narcotic
Arrests Reports The CJSAC
collaborates with the Drug and Violent Crime Control
Task Forces to produce an annual report on the offenders
charged and convicted of drug related offenses.
The 1999 Narcotics Arrest Survey is available on this
web site and the 2000-2001 Narcotics Arrest Survey will
be available in the near future.
Violence
Against Women Program Evaluations The
CJSAC evaluates the Violence Against Women STOP Teams
and the Rural Domestic Violence and Child Victimization
Grant Program in West Virginia. These evaluation
reports are available on this web site and describe the
STOP Teams and the victims they serve.
Court
Statistics
The Supreme Court of
Appeals Administrative Office contracts with the CJSAC
to manage statewide data projects for Circuit,
Magistrate, and Family Law Courts.
